CTI Molecular Imaging Shares Climb Nearly 30 Percent on Sharp Rise
in 4Q Profit

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Medical device maker CTI Molecular Imaging
Inc. on Tuesday saw its shares surge nearly 30 percent after posting
a sharp rise in fourth-quarter profit and beating Wall Street
expectations by 4 cents.

Shares of CTI added almost 27 percent, or $2.37, to trade at $11.20
during pre-market activity on the Nasdaq.

Quarterly income rose to $9.4 million, or 20 cents per share, from
$5.2 million, or 11 cents, in the year-ago period. CTI's results
came in well ahead of estimates for a profit of 16 cents per share
from analysts polled by Thomson First Call.

Net revenue for the period was $129.6 million, an 8 percent rise
from $120.6 million a year earlier. CTI said it sold 48 of its
positron emission tomography scanners during the quarter, and added
that North American demand is improving while international business
continues growing.

For the year, CTI's earnings fell to $18.6 million, or 40 cents per
share, from $20.6 million, or 44 cents, in 2003, but its results
still topped analyst expectations for income of 35 cents. Yearly
revenue grew 11 percent to $401.7 million from $362.3 million the
year before.

Looking ahead, the company sees a first-quarter profit of 3 cents to
5 cents per share on revenue of $90 million, in line with analyst
views of 4 cents and ahead of last year's income of 2 cents on $74
million in revenue.

CTI also pegged its 2005 earnings at 50 cents to 52 cents per share,
with revenue of $420 million to $430 million. Analysts currently
predict a profit of 48 cents per share on sales of $405 million.

Thing was oversold and RSI is still showing a buy here is best move. this one can go to 2.90 before one would need worry about overbought. Weird candles but you do have a nice gap that can be constructive on open. With oil coming off its earlier rally this can catch a bid AM as oil stocks will show up much stouter and off to races. Not done.


The most important element of today’s trading was the opening bid at $2.42. At that point FYLI was already technically overbought based upon the Bollinger bandwidth test: that is without news the price should not rise above the period average price plus 2.25 x standard deviation of the price over that period (yesterday: 1.63 + 2.25*0.27 = 2.24 using a 20 day period). Since 2.45 > 2.24 FLYI was technically overbought, so the price dropped.

The price closed Tuesday at Monday’s 1st level of resistance R1 = $2.05. That’s above today’s pivot point of P1 = $2.20. Technically that’s a SELL signal.

However, the price closed at the top of the current Bollinger band in a series where the Bollinger bandwidth (2*0.22 = 0.44) is still narrowing from yesterday’s bandwidth (2*0.27 = 0.54). Technically that’s a BUY signal.

Institutions begin selling about 10:30 AM today when they decided that FLYI was technically overbought. They stopped selling near 3:30 PM when the price dipped below $2.10, which just happens to be tomorrows (Wednesday’s) technical overbought mark (1.61 + 2.25*0.22 =2.10).

Market Makers were lined up at the end of the day to take the price to just below $2. That will change slightly tomorrow because of the after-hours trades.

Tomorrow’s technical 1st level of support S1 is at 1.9 and that may become the lowest entry point for a long trade assuming the trend continues upwards.

If the price stays above 1.9 that would be a BUY signal and it’s a good bet that the overall upward trend will continue. If FLYI closes below that price it would be a SELL signal.
